As the third and apparently final installment of the Metroid series, this title came out of nowhere from the R&D labs of NCL, and instantly secured its place as one of the great Snes games. Maintaining the atmosphere of the previous Metroids, the minimalist level design and quietly haunting music creates an unforgetable playing experience that is completely different to anything else out there. Comparisons have been drawn with Zelda, but frankly, its prominent side-scrolling/shooting elements mean that there is little resemblance aside from the exploration factor (which Zelda fans may find appealing). Recommended to anyone who wants something a bit different- it really is outstanding! |
